Priority projects

Research, consultation and analysis identified some clear priorities – additional areas of activity to complement and boost what Thanet is already doing to develop and promote tourism.

The priority projects were about:

  • Vibrant towns – making Thanet’s town centres more attractive to visitors and providing more of the right kind of accommodation.
  • Coastline focus – focusing on providing year-round experiences, activities and facilities at key sites along the coast
  • The Isle of Thanet promise – using strong themes from Thanet’s shared story to develop brilliant experiences and a brilliant welcome.

These were the core projects for the Destination Management Framework (DMF). They were selected because they have the ability to deliver higher visitor spend, more prosperous businesses and bring benefits to the local community.

They will ensure the people of Thanet get the most out of the visitor economy Actions focused on investing in Thanet’s natural and built assets and on business growth, underpinned by skills support for tourism and cultural SMEs. The DMF aimed to create more things to see and do, which helped position Thanet as a short break destination.

To achieve that positioning, it was critical to attract inward investment in places to stay. Hotel companies / developers will invest in those destinations where they have identified untapped demand.
